well im new to the thread ive had my 86 4runner (originally efi but it was converted to carb by previous owner, dunno why) for a while now i used to have a bunch of MKIII supras and now iv moved to a toyota truck ...any ways my problem is that the truck heats up after a bit of a drive but i dunno how long it takes to do that because my temp gauge is not working, but when i stop it boils up, u can hear it in the over flow boiling, i burped the system and it doesnt boil any more but i think it still gets hot,.......i lose power on the highway in about 3rd gear, it takes a while to climb up to 65 mph...the oil is actually black to clear color because i know its running really rich, the coolant is still good, it leaks some time from the bottom end of the engine coolant...........any one know what this could be??? id like to get this fixed with out emptying my pocket too much, i just anna use it as a daily drive becuz of my long compute to work its 50 miles round trip every day

Except for the overheating, the rest of your description sounds exactly like mine when the cat conv was totally clogged. But on the other hand, the loosing power when it overheats sounds like my old Corona when it's 22R had a cracked head.
Look at the #4 plug and see if it looks different from the other 3 (I forget exactly what it will look like), but if it's different it's another indication of a clogged cat conv.

actually there is no cat conv so thats not something to worry about....and the truck overall has a 123k original miles, and from wat i was told, the previous owner had just replacethe engine with another used one but i dont know if it is or not to be honest but its not more than 123k over all.
any body else have input on my problem??? iv looked and looked and tried what the forums say but i havent found a solution to my problem yet...

OK, so the CC is ruled out and you have a coolant leak. Maybe get the coolant temp gauge working and see if it's still actually overheating or not, and go from there.

Also check to see if the radiator fins aren't plugged up. Check the thermostat and the clutch fan to make sure they're working good.
And make sure you have enough coolant if it's leaking ;D

ok i m gonna mess wit the temp gauge tonight....i think the radiotor is okay but il check it out....and there is no thermostat....i bought one but havent put it in and acutally how does it go in...spring down or on top?? and its under the housing to the left of the engine cover, right? and as for the coolant it hardly leaks....just a tiny bit...and i just replaced the water pump...some mechanic told me that it had a v6 radiotor on it which was good....but then again i hate those guys now because i payed them alot and they didnt do shit to my truck...so now i just gotta find time to mess with it....its starting to remind me of my old MKIII's...
