I need to replace the frame on my 92 std cab truck. Toyota has discontinued the frame (not available). What year frames are the same as '92? What year frames can I modify to fit, describe? What differences are there between 2wd and 4wd frames?
Thanks, Jerry

1989 - 1995 frames will work, - The 4x2 frames are different - Also there is a difference between the 4 and the 6 cylinder engine - Auto and manual transmission. To save a lot of extra time - Check to see if your vehicle has - California or federal emissions - both will work, but a lot of extra time changing fuel lines etc. - If you have ABS brakes, find a frame that had it also. The bottom line is you want to purchase a frame that is as close as possible,to make the R&R go as smooth as possible. You can modify any thing to fit, kind of a individual choice. skills - time - budget - understanding better half

Is the frame completely shot? There is such a thing as replacing a frame section. As long as your not trying to make a fruit salad out of HORSE S!!t,I would consider this option. A used frame at a salvage yard is between -4 & 9 hundred dollars and depending on what state you live in, the state kotax

Depending on what part of the country, finding any frame in decent condition will be lucky, so don't pass one up because it's 4 cyl instead of 6 cyl, etc. A 2nd gen 4wd is similar, and depending on skills and equipment a 2wd frame could be made to work.

whomadewho, Thanks for your detailed note. This means for 92 there are v6 manual, v6 auto, i4 manual, i4 auto (four) frames. The parts man said there are different part numbers for most years (with some exceptions). There could be up to 7 (years) x 4 (frames) = 28 frames/ part numbers. I will ask parts to check these combinations. Can you (or anyone) tell me the differences between the 95 and 96 frames (what changed)? My frame has holes in several places, repair would be difficult. Thanks again for your help.

My frame was rusted real bad under the back seats of my 4runner I chopped a rear half of a frame and spliced it with mine! No problems what so ever but it didn't stop the rust from kicking back up on the rest of my stock frame! I'm now swapping my runner onto an 83 blazer frame and drive train b/c my frame wouldn't last long with my 350... I say replace the whole frame.
