Ok I KNOW THIS IS A QUESTION THAT HAS BEEN ASK TO DEATH but i have yet to see a answer that fits my needs and pocket book. I am looking at a 91 4 runner with a locked up 3.0 it has the 5 speed tranny. first of all money is a issue . I want to use this as a everyday driver. I now drive a 86 toy pu with a 22r 5 speed lifted on 35 inch tires. which i am VERY happy with but would like the inside room of the 4 runner. what is the easyest cheapest and the most sinceable way way to fix this 4 runner i will most likely lift it and run the 35s. I am fine with the power of the 22r and the gas milage is good but it wouldnt hurt to gear it down some im running 4.10 gears now. thanks for any coments

A 22r engine is not a direct bolt up. Then there is a different exhaust system, computer, ETC. The only way you could do this is if you had a donor truck. A good 3.0 is hard to find and they bring good money. You might want to find a donor with a 3.0,or check with the salvage yard and find a core engine. Between the core and your engine you can put something together at a reasonable cost.

How about dropping the 3.4 (5VZ-FE) V6 from a Taco in? Would be a lot easier than a 22RE.

coorect me if im wrong ,but if you have the tranny with the removable bellhousing and a 22r bellhousing it will work. The 22r doesn't have to have a ecm its carbed not F/I and mounting it to the frame is just a motor mount swap.I had a 20r in my 95 until it started knocking and it had plenty of power with a 3.90r/p with 34's

Long ago I contacted a local salvage yard which uses Hollander parts exchange,Hollander exchange shows the bell housings - will not exchange, The 4x2,4x4,22r.3.0 -5speed manual and automatic transmissions all use different bell housings. Again he is looking for the cheap route. If he purchases a 22r engine (ONLY) not a Donner vehicle,he still has the exhaust system and a lot of misc, items etc to contend with, which could drive the cost up.
