Has anybody raised their parking brake cable to add blocks or leafs to their spring? How did you do it?
Heres my story; I have a 2001 Tacoma with 2.5" Camburg coilovers in the front with their extended A arms and 8 leaf Deavers in the rear with Bilstien 5100's. It's been a good set up and with 285/75X16 BFG AT's I've had very minor issues but, I can't seem to leave things alone. I upgraded to 255/85X16 BFG MT's and have no worse problems in the front thanI had before as far as rubbing goes but, I am worried about clearance in the rear. I have a frind running these same tires with stock leaves and longer shackles but I'm worried that my softer than stock springs will let my tires hit the wheel well. I really don't want to go back to stock springs and shackles and thought maybe I could put my old overload spring under my Deavers but my brake cables will rub on the spring if I do that. Any suggestions?

I have the same issue.I never found a fix or looked for one but even after six years of the cable sitting on top of the spring nothing wrong has happened. But your issue is differnt due to the fact that there's a lot more leafs in the Dever set up.Let me think on this and I'll get back to you.

I've been thinking about it more and came to the conclusion I should just extend the bump stops. Any thoughts?

That might work. It's hard to figure something out when you don't have the truck nearby to look at.I'm in FL and my rig is in PA.I should have it back in a couple weeks though.

I know it's hard to figure out without seeing it. I'm just trying to think it though. If I extend the bump stops it still won't address the softness of the springs. They are great springs but they don't haul much weight so when I put sandbags in for the winter it sags a lot in the rear. I thought adding the overload back in would help that although I would lose some spring travel on compression. I'm also thinking my shocks will be too short if I add that overload in since it's 3/4" thick. Do you think I should go that route and put a limit strap on?

Either do the overload or if you have other leafpacks laying around you could mix and match them until you achieve the ideal set-up.We did this to rocktoys rig.I had a set of '88 suburban front leafs which have 11 leafs in one pack. It's time consuming but he ended up with the perfect set-up.
This is also the reason I opted to install the 63" chevy leafs in the rear of my tacoma. My rear bumper weighs close to 300lbs with the spare mounted.I now have plenty of flex and can still load up the bed to haul stuff and still have stability on/off the road.

Yup, i'm adding the stock overload to my 8 leaf Deavers and fabbing up some extensions for the parking brake brackets. May have to add some limit straps but we'll see as we get further along.

Well, it all worked out. I added my stock overload to my 8 leaf Deavers and it did exactly what i was hoping. Even standing on the rear bumper my tires clear my rear flares with no issues. We fabbed up some extension for the parking brake brackets and got it so the cable just clears the top of the spring. So far I'm petty happy with the way it worked out.

Really pretty simple. The bracket is two pieces so I just took it apart and laid a piece of flat stock in. For the center bracket I just added some spacers. Attachments:
