Is this head from a 20r or 22r?

I was told it's all from a 22R.

Umm, the sticker on the valve cover says it's a 21R.

Is there a way to tell? The guy that had these parts passed away and he had two trucks so it could be a mixed bag for all I know. Maybe I should test fit that cover and see if they are all the same.

The best way might be to measure the bore of the block. 20R is 88.4 mm (3.48 in) 21R is 84.0 mm (3.31 in) 22R is 91.9 mm (3.62 in)
The stroke on all is 89 mm.

21R… now that’s one I haven’t heard about for a while. If I remember correctly the 21R engines weren’t supposed to be imported into the US, and were only used in Japan. They were slightly smaller in displacement than the 22R, and the 21R used two carburetors, which did not meet emission control requirements in the US and that's why they were not allowed. They did start importing them for a few years due to the big demand for used engines, but lost about 10-15 HP (dropping to a single carb) to meet US emissions. The manifolds were also different and did not match up to the cylinder heads of the 22R. I believe the valve cover of 20R, 21R, and the 22R are all the same.
It looks to be a 22R. It’s definitely not a 20R cuz the intake ports are round on the 20R. As fourwd1 mentioned above measure the bore to be sure.

The 21R-U was imported to the US on a limited basis, for some reason mainly in the PNW.
