Hey you'll, new here, been reading on alot of toyota boards, and I have developed a question. Everything I read is about people having problems with the 3.0 vze. I have a 1989 4x4 pickup with the v6 5 speed with 196,000 miles on it, and it still runs great, as a matter of fact I just put another timing belt, and waterpump in it, just in maintaining it. I have never had a minutes trouble with my engine, but everywhere I look guys are swapping them out for a 3.4, or something else. When my engine does go someday I plan to replace it with another 3.0, am I the only one that has had good luck with them? Or is there others that are faithful to them?

The big issue with the 3.0 that most folks are bothered with is the potential head gasket issue. Most folks try to avoid having to do major motor repair work. They're also known for the lack of power and with very limited aftermarket support it's sort of the deal breaker. There are plenty of folks who have never had any major issues with them. The earlier version of the 3.4 has it's demons as well. They are know to have rods explode and take out the block. The second gen 3.4's are the most reliable of the 3.4 v-6's.For me I'm a very big fan of the 3RZ 4cyl. with a few upgrades they have almost equal #'s to a stock 3.4 and are even more reliable IMO.
