my transmission is coming out of a 87 with a 22re and the engine in my 81 is a 22r, my question is ,,,,,will the 22re flywheel work on the 22r, and what about the flywheel to starter is both starters the same, and clutch and pilot bearings, and throw out bearings, am i going to run into any issues with this when i buy all new parts, which one should i buy for the 87 transmission with the 22re or the 22r, or does it make any difference,,, i guess what i am asking is it all the same. i need some help, thanks

I think they are all interchangeable, but the solution would be to measure and compare. I'd get parts to match the trans, not the engine.

Just found out that I have at least a 89 trans, throwout bearing was totally different, but I don't know the model number, it still has the top shift transfer, and it shifted good, so mayb it will b alright, it might b the same as the 87 , I havnt found out yet,

An 87 with a 22RE will have a top shift W56, an 81 with a 22R will have a top shift L50 trans. An 89 with a 22RE should have a forward shift W56. Either way, the W56 is longer than the L50 so you will have to relocate the x-member too.

is it possible when whoever changed the transmission out , the put the 87 transfer case on the 89, the only reason i am calling it a 89, is because the clutch kit for the 87 came with a throwout bearing that was totally different than the one that was on there, the one that was on there actually fit 89, 90 and mayb another, but it does have the topshift transfer, is there a number on the side of the trans somewhere that i can find out exactly which one i have,

Unfortunately no, there are no relevant markings on them. If you can post some decent pics (esp side views) one of us should be able to ID it.

i will try that, but i have another issue, driveshafts, from flange to flange measurements, the front is 25 1/2" and the rear is 52 1/2" flange to flange,, is there any concerns when getting these made up, because this is not cheap,,
