i picked up a new toy about three weeks ago and its slowly turning into a rock crawler i wanna do rear disc break conversion but haven't heard enough feed back on different kits that are available, do i get rid of the factory rear proportioning valve, do i keep it or do i need to put a manual one in, i do know i don't want the calipers with the e break lever cause I'm getting the e break that mounts on the back of the transfer case from what I've read our factory e break lever doesn't have enough pull to fully engage the e break lever on the calipers. just trying to see whats the best bang for the buck out there and the pros and cons of different kits thanks again

There are a number of aftermarket rear disc brake conversions available. Some use systems with integral parking brakes and some use systems that require an e-brake connected to the t-case. It's up to you you to decide which is the best for your use.

ok i called all-pro offroad and there kit was $439.00 for everything but they said i can use my factory rear proportioning valve but to take the bar that is connected to rear end and shove it up under the body so the valve it wide open, i understand that but then they told me i need a fj 80 master cylinder they provide to go to the one inch bore. is there just not enough volume in the factory system to actuate the calipers or what. Ive read about the master cylinder out of a v6 but does it bolt right up and do i need to bother messing with the master cylinder at all if i go with the manual proportioning valve? what have some of you guys used out there when doing the rear disc conversion thanks again

The disc conversion does have different requirements. AP pioneered the rear disc conversion, as well as most of the other big offroad stuff (like x-over steering). I would follow their advice.

Did you go with the v6 rotors and calipers up front ? I am looking at switching my 86 runner 22re to the v6 parts but didn't think i would need the master or booster. Thanks.

no i went and got Fj60 rotors. i believe there from a 1981 all the way to a 1990 and as far as the calipers i put a set of Ifs calipers out of a 86 and newer pickup. the rotors i got at my local parts store and they were 37 bucks and change cheep enough. Does your 86 runner have the sas swap?

I think you are confusing things. You use Land Cruiser vented rotors and V6 calipers from an IFS 4WD truck. This combo is a bolt-on improvement for solid front axle trucks. It would not work on your 86 runner unless it has a solid front axle swapped in. This swap does not require any MC changes. But, if your 86 has the stock IFS front end, it already has vented rotors, so you can easily bolt-on the V6 calipers from a later IFS truck.

Due to an accident i changed my 86 rotors out to a set of 93's. Calipers wouldn't fit over these rotors, co i put the 93 calipers on too. Only issue was the pads wouldn't go all the way into caliper. The ear on the pad was contacting the knuckel by where the caliper bolts on. Cut ears off pad... now everything fits and works ok. No need for v6 mc. Oh yeah...had to trim dust shield some. Calipers are a little longer.

No, i still have the ifs, but have the 85 axle sitting here for that "someday" project. Shop called me today to say the frame is slightly bent. Drivers side is pushed back about 1/4" and camber is -1/4 with 0 caster. Right side camber is -3/8 and caster is + 1/2. i don't even know what all that means!!!
