How high do I need to lift my 4x4 98 Tacoma with automatic transmission (4.0 cylinders) to fit 305/70R 17 tires?
Should I change gearing with the lift?

305/70R 17 converts to about a 34" tall x 12" wide tire. I'm not a Taco expert, but 3-4" should do it. What is the original/stock tire size?

The stock tires are 235/75/15. So, you think 3" will do it? Are you sure they not going to rub? The tires are pretty wide.
Also, should I go with spacers or replace the coilovers and shocks? I want to spend the least money possible. However, I am not sure how much stiffer will it get if I install just spacers. If its going to be too stiff I would rather replace everything now then later. Has anyone put these tires on their Tacoma?

Stock is 29x15 and 16"(both sizes are factory most regular cabs are 15" and x-cab and double cabs run 16" this is not in stone. i have seen reg cabs with 16") I used a 3"spacer lift and was able to run 33x10.5's I had to add a 2" BL and trim the fenders to clear 33x12.5's
