I have a 94 sr5 ext.cab 4x4, 3.0 auto, 31x10.50 tires. The truck is all stock and the recall was done. I'm only getting about 11 mpg average. There is a cap on it that increases the weight but should help aerodynamically. I know intake and exhaust mods will help but I'm not sure why it is so low being a stock truck. I only have 86,000 miles so the motor shouldn't be tired yet. Has anyone experienced this, is there a problem I'm unaware of, or do I just have to live with it. I know the 3.0 was never a powerhouse to begin with and trying to move the weight of the truck well...

Sounds like your dragging a boat anchor. Since you didn't put up what you had checked so far I am going to throw some things out that you should check. -air filter -clogged catalytic converter -electrical (ie. cap, rotor, plugs, wires) -driveline (ie. wheel bearings, 4x4 locked in,) -vacuum leak -clogged throttle body Those are some things to check. I pretty sure I got better mpg than that with mine when it was stock. I would get about 9mpg with my truck when it was on a solid dana 44 with 36" TSL's. Good luck

I have the same problem with my '93 4Runner 3.0 SR5. I have a cone K&N, new plugs, new wires etc etc...all the fuel saving stuff. I've read loads of reviews that all rate it as a gas hogging pig. Same size tires too.

I have a 92 extended cab 3.0 with 88,000 miles with A.D.D., i have never seen below 14mpg, 14-19 is what i usually see. When i drive it hard i get bout 14-15, but 9 seems way out of wack. Oh yeah and the truck is bone stock with 31s... for now

I cant imagine drvn a small truck that gets single digit mpg( I get pissed off when I get 20mpg). Check everything snorkleman said and if that doesnt work ditch the truck or keep it as a trail/hauler vehicle. My focus as of lately has been looking for a daily driver car that gets 30mpg+. Most people dont use there trucks/SUVs for there intended purpose on a daily purpose. I know I dont, so what is the point of drvn one and sucking up all that gas. I hate to sound like a damn hippie but I hate giving my hard earned money to Aktar in the middle East or Chavez in Venezuela.

So you mean that the average consumption for a 3.0 V6 is 14mpg? ? That's insane! I have to cross from UK down all the way to Sicily to bring home a Surf I just bought and if what you're saying is correct, the trip's gonna cost me more than what I actually paid for the truck itself!

Ya I was getting 9 mpg in mine and now im gettin lucky if I get around 11 or 12. New air filter and the exhaust used to be just straight out into a flowmaster 40 muffler. Threw the cat back on but havent been able to put the muffler back on yet so maybe that will help some.

I dont know why you are all getting 11 or so.... My dads 89, 3.0, 5spd, 210,000 miles, 33's, gets around 20mpg highway and 15-17 city. Regular tune-ups its entire life and the headgasket thing. I actually drove it for a couple months cause it beat the 12-15mpg I was getting with my 85.

Im going to have to go with Sean. I am thinking its a lazy 02 sensor maybe.

You might also need to check your timing. I'm with Sean on the O2 sensors as well. If they are out a whack you could be running rich and not even know it. I agree the 3.0 isn't the most efficient engine but you should be seeing higher numbers.

i have 90 3.0 5spd and i get 9-14 miles per gallon and gas costs 3.39 a gallon here!! my truck has 163,000 with 32's. i do maintance every 3500 miles. (oil change, filter, plugs) and i put on new wires. i just changed my catalytic converter and put on my pacesetter cat-back exhaust this morning. would a bum knock sensor be any of part of the problem. the engine light code reads the knock sensor is bad. the only thing that acts up on my truck is the idle surges when i press on the brake when the engine is warm. could it have anything to do with the quality of our gas, ive heard the octane in the fuel in my town isnt even 87. but let me know if oyu have any tips.

I am with all the guys that lean toward o2 sensors and cat convertor. does it idle smooth as a baby or kinda load up after a few minutes, also back in the day we had some throttle body issues they where sucking air on the drivers side arounf the gasket that could cause the o2 to read crazy and the irratic idle if you have any.just my 2 cents worth. later, take care. spray a non flamable brake clean or other aresol around your t=body and intake.....look for vacuum leaks..rough idle is prob leak or that 339 gallon gas is horrible...if the vacuum leak doesnt show its face use some fuel treat to see if that helps..I like Lucas fuel addy its kick but works great
take care Bill
