I am really looking forward in putting a ford 302 in mine. I still am trying to figure out what transmission to use to replace the g58 and what transfer case to use. I was gonna use the stock transfer case till i realized i have the VF1A ( chain driven). if i am gonna do the swap i wanna put in a ford transmission however it is a bitch finding a good 5spd manual trans. Ford is not known for the best tranny's.

ya there isn't much for it. I am using the ZF s5-42. It is a 5 speed manual that came on the f250 350 and 450's. It has a really low first gear and pretty nice overdrive. ya i checked into it and nothing is made for this except the adapter to a dana 300. Seems like my only option. But i think for now i am gonna see i can just keep it on the left side and use a CV joint. Truck with super high lift get away with high angle driveshafts so i don't think this angle is gonna be near that bad, so i guess i will have to see, and play my options

also wanted to ask, who makes things like cross- members, and what not? I don't need the whole conversion kit, just odd and end parts.

I think Northwestoffroad will have the crossmembers if you want. I am gonna make mine or just relocate my stock toyota one. It is pretty much just a plate peice of steel that goes from one side to the other. I think the 4.3 and 350 have the same mounts, but i am not 100% Go to www.northwestoffroad.com and see if the part number as the same for the motor mounts. As for now with mine i don't know where i can find a Dana 300 although i looked at the adapter kit for the ZF tranny and it is $300, no too bad i guess. Don't know where i am gonna find a Dana 300 though:S maybe i will worry about that a bit later, not like all this stuff is gonna be done in a weekend, lol

4.3 and 350 use the same mounts...i'm pretty sure you'll still need a 1 inch boldylift for the 4.3..but ..as for the ford..nope,distributor is up in the front...for the diesel, i'm sure its too heavy haha
hell chevy engines in general are heavy compared to other engines..that diesel is in the big block range...650 700?

Ya the diesel the is a monster, besdies the 6.2L diesel had problems from what i heard, then they came out with the 6.5 which wasnt any better till the last year before the canceled it. Now if you wanna put a diesel in put in a duramax or a cummings, lol. But that is just getting stupid now. Hey anyone have a dana 300 transfer case they wanna sell?? i think i am in the market for one.

I have looked into putting lots of engines into my truck in the last 3 years. Done lots of web wheelin. What I finally came down to was this. My 4banger toy, on 33's, has gone EVERYWHERE i have wanted it to. I follow my friend with his chevy 350 toyota on 38's everywhere. So why change? its reliable, works, and keeps on ticking. Only engine I would consider at this point would be a 2.7 toyota. Just a newer 4banger.
I say lock it up, put some 33-36 inch tires on it, and gear it for the tires you are running. Anyway thats just one guys opinion. Take it or leave it.

the buick v6 was a common swap years ago i think, but they were never a great motor. apparently they had vibration issues, and dependng on the motor itself, did it really make anymore power then the toyota v6 that came in the 4runner??. Advantage could be he might have done a nice job and all the work is done for ya. Disadvantages well i already talked about that. Ya i have no complaints with the stock reliable, last forever, 4clyinder except they are guttless as hell. Even after the cam, cam gear, head work, headers and gears it is still guttless. Besides for me building the 302 was something that i wanted to do anyways, and well since i built it, i might as well use it. Also my 22re has never been all that reliable for me, i don't know why, i know when i built the engine it was done so perfect, but maybe just a bad combination or parts or something, but not as reliable anymore after a few years.

The truck that has the buick v6 in it has been wheeled, and seen some scary stuff. He has never had any problems out of it, that he admits to. It is mated to a TH350 tranny, so if the v6 didn't work out, I already have motor mounts for either a 4.3 or a 350... I will keep you guys posted and post some pics as soon as I can.

well if it doesn't work out, that isn't much to keep if it is just motor mounts:S, those run like $100. Ya keep me posted. what transfer case does it have?? and i am not sure if the buick v6 is the same block as the 4.3 chevy v6 but i could be wrong, so not sure if those motor mounts are gonna be the same.
